Description
Job Summary:
Plans, organizes, conducts training, and evaluates activities. Develops programs incorporating adult learning principles for all PCU employees to develop skills, safe practices, enhance productivity, and increase individual and unit performance.

Essential Functions:
1. Staff Development
Assists in the development of clinical competencies for PCU staff –nurses, aides, and unit coordinators. Provides education and training for clinical staff in PCU to assure that quality patient care is provided according to DNV and CMS, and organizational standards. Develops and provides nurse, aide, and unit coordinator unit-based orientation and ongoing education to assure continued staff competency in collaboration with the PCU Leadership Team and Manager of Education. Assists PCU Manager and PCU Leadership Team with staff recruitment and retention. Provides education in-services. Collaborates with education department and participates in mandatory education department meetings. Participates in Nurse Practice Council Organizes and maintains staff competency documentation.

2. New Hires
Creates, maintains, and updates competency validation documentation for new hires in PCU. Assists with unit-based orientation. Performs 90-day evaluations with input from staff. Follows new hire through their orientation process and provides coaching, remediation, and additional training as needed. Meets with new hires and new graduate RNs along with their preceptors every other week or more frequently as determined by educator, preceptor, and preceptee. Ensures that orientation packets are thoroughly completed, signed off, collected, and filed according to HR expectations. Works closely with the education department to contribute to nurse residency program.

3. Continuing Education
Maintains PCU staff competency checklists. Provides yearly competency program for PCU. Maintains, develops, and updates skills to implement standards of care and service. Gives on-going feedback to staff in a positive manner as it relates to competency validation. Annually updates the competencies of all employees in PCU to ensure new processes are included and employees receive thorough orientation. Provides additional individual competencies for new equipment, procedures, or items that need reviewed more than on an annual basis. Organizes on-going educational courses according to unit demands. Keeps the unit appraised of new changes to evidence-based practice and how it will affect direct care.

4. Direct Nursing Care
Fulfills job description for RN role and works in this role as scheduled, one shift per pay period and/ or as needed in PCU when help is required for patient care.

5. Annual Skills Evaluations for RNs and CNAs
Actively participates to design and implement skills, competency, and evaluations for all nursing staff (nurses, aides, and unit coordinators). Works closely with the PCU Leadership, education department and Manager of Education to create on-going skill competencies and evaluations.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Required: ASN
Preferred: BSN

Minimum Work Experience:
Required: Two years of recent acute care RN experience. Knowledge of computers and related software (MS office, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook). Good communication, interpersonal, phone, and customer service skills. Good organizational skills.

Required Licenses: Current RN license with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming and BLS certification required at the time of hire. CPI, ACLS, and PALS within 6 months of hire.

Functional Demands:
Working Conditions: Classroom, clinical units, or office setting. Frequent interruptions. One 12-hour direct care shifts per pay period. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements: Work requires extensive periods of walking, talking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and some lifting of equipment. Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases is possible. Computer use. Able to lift 50 pounds. Must possess sight/hearing senses to meet the requirements of this position.
