Description
Job Summary:
Performs clinical and non-clinical duties in collaboration with the audiologist. Clinical duties include, but are not limited to:
· Responsible for seeing patients without direct supervision to dispense, fit, and maintain hearing aids. 
· Administering and interpreting auditory screening procedures.
Non-clinical tasks include, but are not limited to:
· Answering phones, scheduling appointments, keeping inventory.
· Continuing education to maintain license.
· Primary contact for patient in relation to the manufacturer, billing department, payer, and/or provider. 

Essential Functions:
1. Determining Auditory Function and Testing Hearing Loss
· Administering and interpreting tests of auditory function (including but not limited to: basic screening procedures, such as pure tone screening, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes and screening of ear canal status using otoscope).

2. Prepare, Fit, and Dispense Hearing Instruments
· Including programming of the hearing aid, instructing patients on how to use, care for, troubleshoot and maintain devices and re-programming the aid as needed. 

3. Communication
· Primary contact for patient in relation to the manufacturer, billing department, payer, and/or provider.
· Communicates clearly and effectively with Audiologist to provide collaborative care.

4. Data Tracking
· Scanning in documents, keeping all department forms up to date and accurate, keeping hearing aid warranty/inventory/sales information up to date. Keeps computers and software updated and equipment regularly calibrated.

5. Non-Clinical Duties
· Answers phones, schedules and makes appointments, answers patient questions, insurance verifications and provides information on insurance coverage and financial assistance as it relates to hearing aids.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Required 
High School Diploma, GED, or High School Equivalence Certificate. Must be licensed with the State as an Hearing Instrument Specialist and complete continued education requirement.

Minimum Work Experience:
Required 
Computer experience necessary. Requires on the job training in hearing aids, hearing aid repair, basic understanding of the auditory system. etc.

Required Licenses: Wyoming State License as a Hearing Instrument Specialist at time of hire.

Functional Demands:
Working Conditions: 
Sitting at a desk up to 8 hours a day, extensive use of computer, working with diverse group of patients, ages infant to geriatric. Working one-on-one with patients without direct supervision. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements: Requires sitting and standing associated with normal office environment. Occasionally requires sitting on the floor or kneeling to help with children's testing. Intermittent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, bending, stretching. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Requires excellent vision, coordination, and small muscle skills.
