Summary:
As a sonographer you play a vital role in our organization which is dedicated to exceptional and ever advancing individualized care. Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrate skill and knowledge in the use of all standard ultrasound equipment by producing and recording high quality diagnostic images following exam protocols on neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Consistently demonstrate competence in performing ultrasound examinations offered by the department which includes OB/GYN, abdomen, breast, small parts and vascular procedures.
  • Obtain and examine order requisition to ensure adequate indication for procedure is documented and correlates with the ultrasound exam to be performed.
  • Thoroughly explain the procedure in an empathetic and caring way to alleviate patient anxiety and ensure patient's questions are answered.
  • Prepare examination for interpretation by the Radiologist (including exam QA, scanning appropriate documents, retrieving prior supplies, etc).
  • Charge exam, supplies and medications accurately at the time of use.
  • Organize and prioritize care of multiple patients with varying levels of acuity in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations.
  • Transports patients safely to and from the Diagnostic Imaging department with proper hand-off communications.
  • Convey a strong sense of advocacy and support for staff and co-workers.
  • Assist, teach, and answer questions for colleagues.
  • Maintains, develops and updates Sonographer skills and actively seeks out educational opportunities for development.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Work Experience
Required: Ultrasound experience required. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and phone etiquette skills
Preferred: 2 years working as a Sonographer in a hospital setting. Breast Ultrasound, OB, ABD, Vascular and or Adult echocardiography credentials with associated experience.

Required Licenses: Registered with the ARDMS. BLS (AHA) certification required.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions: Radiation exposure, hospital environment, on-call rotation. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements: 80% of shift standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift 10 pounds over head. Intermittent sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and computer use.
